the postpartum period

People often ask how long the postpartum period will last, and while what we know they’re looking for a concrete answer as to when things will feel normal again, the answer is more complex: “you’ll always be postpartum”.

Conceiving, growing and delivering a baby results in a total rewiring of the maternal body and brain, a full-body takeover that forever augments a mother’s physiology.

Do we mean this to say you’ll never fully recover from pregnancy and childbirth? Absolutely not.

We say this to inspire patience and compassion, a reverence for all that your body has created.

When planning for postpartum recovery, we think in phases as opposed to timelines, so as to dismantle the idea that the postpartum period is one size fits all.

So whether you’re pregnant, newly postpartum or years into your journey as a mother, remember to give your body and mind the same TLC you give to your little one(s), and surround yourself with a team of providers who can support you along the way.
